Gustavus Adolphus College student athlete Lisa Brown, the Division III National Champion in the javelin, is taking part in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, which begin on Friday, June 27 and run through Sunday, July 6. Brown, a native of Lake Crystal, Minn., heads into the trials ranked 12th nationally with a qualifying mark of 52.17 meters (174 feet, 5 inches). Brown is one of 24 javelin throwers who were invited to the Olympic Trials.

The U.S. Olympic Trials, which will take place at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, begin with the women’s heptathlon on Friday, June 27 at 1:00 pm (Pacific Standard Time). Brown will compete in the qualifying round in the javelin on Saturday, June 28 at 12:45 pm (PST). The top 12 will advance to the finals on Monday, June 30 at 8:20 pm (PST).

Brown, a two-time Division III National Champion and three-time All-American in the javelin, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials at the 2008 NCAA Championships when she recorded her national championship winning throw of 52.17 meters.

Earlier this season, Brown competed against many of her competitors at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the Drake Relays. She finished seventh with a throw of 47.68 meters (156 feet, 5 inches).

Brown is the first track and field athlete at Gustavus to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The largest national championship track meet in the world, the U.S. Olympic Trials hosts more than 1,000 athletes as they compete for the right to represent Team USA at the Olympic Games. More than 350,000 fans attended the last two Olympic Trials in Sacramento, and at each edition of the meet, more than 1,000 members of the media from around the world covered the event while thousands of volunteers and officials provided support.
