Gustavus junior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) won the javelin title at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a school and conference record effort of 174 feet, 5 inches on Saturday afternoon. Brown, who won the national javelin title in 2006 and finished second in 2007, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials with her winning effort. She is the first Gustavus student-athlete to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field. Brown produced her winning effort of 174 feet, 5 inches, on her final throw of the championships and it was 12 feet better than her earlier toss of 162 feet, 8 inches. Brown’s finished helped Gustavus finish in a tie for 15th in the final team standings with 18 points. The NCAA Championships were hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
