Tennis Teams Earn ITA All-Academic Honors

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes with both the Gustavus men’s and women’s teams receiving recognition. This year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes.

Men’s track and field throwing specialist Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) and women’s tennis player Bri Hartmann (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College April Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

The No. 32 Gustavus women’s tennis team played two matches on Saturday, winning both. The Gusties defeated St. Olaf 9-0 before taking down Bethel 6-3 to improve to 19-11 overall and 9-1 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team took on St. Catherine Sunday morning and came out with an 8-1 victory before taking on St. Benedict in the afternoon and winning 9-0. With the wins the Gusties improve to 17-11 on the year and 7-0 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team competed in their first two matches in Madison, Wis. of the weekend and fell to No. 11 Kenyon College 5-4 before defeating No. 30 Hope College 5-4. With the results the Gusties move to 12-11 on the season.
