Football Prepared To Face Saint John’s Saturday

The Gustavus football team will travel to Collegeville, Minn. to face 18th-ranked Saint John's University on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. The Gusties enter the contest at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC after defeating Hamline 21-14 last Saturday, while the Johnnies come in with a record of 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference play after losing to Concordia 9-6 a week ago.

Adam Lukes Touchdown Gives Football 450th Win As Gusties Defeat Hamline 21-14

The Gustavus football team used a three-yard touchdown run from Adam Lukes (Sr., Watertown, Minn.) late in the fourth quarter to defeat Hamline University 21-14 for the program's 450th win at Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties outgained the Pipers 339-218, but Hamline forced four interceptions, including three in the third quarter, to stay close in the MIAC opener for both schools.

Football Set For Home Opener Against Hamline University

The Gustavus football team will host Hamline University in its MIAC season opener on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Hollingsworth Field on the Gustavus campus. Linebacker Paul Stommes Named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Gustavus sophomore linebacker Paul Stommes (Richmond, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) has been named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Coe College last Saturday. Stommes played a key role in the Gusties' defensive effort in a 27-19 win over the Kohawks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as he tallied 15 tackles with seven solo stops and an interception.

Freshman Elliot Herdina Stars As Gustie Football Team Opens With 27-19 Win Over Coe

The Gustavus football team used two Elliot Herdina second half touchdowns to slip past Coe College 27-19 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday afternoon. The Gustie defense came up with several big plays in crucial situations to limit the Kohawks to four field goals, while not allowing an offensive touchdown in the contest. Herdina, in his first game at Gustavus, rushed three times for 74 yards, including a 68-yard TD scamper, and caught three passes for 40 yards, including a nine-yard TD reception.

Schoenebeck Announces 2008 Football Season Will Be His Last As Head Coach

Gustavus Adolphus College Head Football Coach Jay Schoenebeck has announced that the 2008 season will be his final season as head coach. After 29 years coaching college football, Schoenebeck has decided it is time to step away from the demands of being a head collegiate coach so he can dedicate more time to his family, which includes his wife Darcey, and their five-month old daughter Eryn.

Gustavus Football Returns To The Gridiron For 2008

The Gustavus football team returned to campus on August 20 to begin training for the 2008 season which will begin Saturday, September 13 at Coe College. Head Coach Jay Schoenebeck and his staff welcomed 112 players, including 34 returning letterwinners and a large and talented recruiting class. Captains Ted Aleckson, Chad Arlt, Jared Thelemann, and Joe Welch will lead a squad that returns 19 starters (eight on defense, six on offense, and five on special teams).

Former Gustavus Football Player Ryan Hoag Signs Contract With Jacksonville Jaguars

Former Gustavus football standout Ryan Hoag continues his dream of playing in the National Football League as he is currently in training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is the sixth consecutive year Hoag has been a part of an NFL Training Camp. He has previously played with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Washington Redskins.

Gustavus Football Stadium Featured In Athletic Business Magazine’s Architectural Showcase

The Gustavus Adolphus Adolphus College football stadium, which was dedicated this past September, has been selected as one of 89 state-of-the-art athletic facilities built in the past year by Athletic Business magazine. The stadium, which was built at a cost of $4.6 million and seats approximately 5,000, was designed by TKDA Architects out of St. Paul, Minnesota.
