Former Gustavus football standout Ryan Hoag continues his dream of playing in the National Football League as he is currently in training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is the sixth consecutive year Hoag has been a part of an NFL Training Camp. He has previously played with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Washington Redskins.

Hoag spent ten days in the Jaguars mini-camp in June and signed a free-agent contract on Friday, July 25th. He began camp on Saturday, July 26. In Jacksonville, Hoag will be reunited with former Vikings Head Coach Mike Tice. Hoag played for Tice for three seasons in Minnesota (2004-2006).

Signed by Washington in January 2007, Hoag was released in the team’s last cut last September. He spent time on the Redskins’ practice squad in 2006. Hoag attended training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2005 and 2006, but was released in the teams’ last cut each year. In 2004, Hoag spent 13 games on the Vikings’ practice squad; he was inactive for three other games. He spent six weeks on the New York Giants practice squad in 2003 after going through training camp with the Oakland Raiders. Hoag was drafted by the Raiders in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft; as the last selection, he earned the title of “Mr. Irrelevant”.

Hoag, a 2003 graduate of Gustavus with a major in elementary education, was a two-time all-conference wide receiver for the Gusties. He completed his career with 144 catches for 2,332 yards and 29 touchdowns. Hoag was also a standout on the track and field team where he earned All-America honors with a third place finish in the 100 meter dash at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
