Baseball Splits With Concordia Falling 8-7, Winning 12-1
The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team picked up its fourth split in five doubleheaders Wednesday with a split against Concordia College in Moorhead. The Gusties fell 8-7 in game one after leading at one point 7-2, but rebounded to take the second game, 12-1. Gustavus (15-5, 5-5 MIAC) was led by Wade Vrieze, who went 5-for-8 with three doubles and a triple. Vrieze also drove in three and scored four times.
Softball Team Sweeps Concordia 7-0, 6-0
The Gustavus women's softball team recorded a sweep against Concordia by the scores of 7-0 and 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter. Audrey Lenoch (Sr., Pine Island, Minn.) led the Gusties with five hits in six at-bats on the day, including a triple, and five RBI.
Women’s Basketball Falls to Concordia in MIAC Semifinals 63-55
The Gustavus women's basketball season saw its season come to a close Wednesday night as Concordia completed the season sweep of the Gusties with a 63-55 MIAC Playoff Semifinal win in Moorhead. Gustavus' Bri Monahan led all players with 22 points and surpassed the 1000-point barrier for her career. The Gusties wind up 19-7, while Concordia (20-6) will host Carleton in the MIAC Championship game Saturday afternoon.
Concordia Downs Women’s Basketball 65-63 on Last Second Shot
The Gustavus women's basketball jumped out to an early 13-0 lead on MIAC co-leader Concordia Wednesday night, but the Cobbers rallied in the second half, capturing a 65-63 win over the Gusties in Moorhead. Jessica Heintz scored on a jumper with five seconds to play to put Concordia ahead for good. The Cobbers move into sole possession of the lead in the MIAC with a 10-2 league mark, while the Gusties fall to 11-4 overall, 9-3 in the MIAC.
Women’s Basketball Edged By Concordia 54-52
The Gustavus women's basketball team fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC with a 54-52 loss to Concordia Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties, who trailed 33-27 at halftime, fought back to tie the score at 52-52 with 44 seconds remaining only to see Cobber junior Sarah Krabbenhoft hit a jumper with 28 seconds left on the clock and take the victory. The Cobbers improve to 2-4 overall and even their mark in the MIAC at 1-1. Gustavus will host St. Kate's on Monday, December 5.
Women’s Hockey Downs Concordia 6-0
Junior Ingrid Neve and first-year Jenny Pusch each scored a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team to a 6-0 win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Moorhead. The Gusties, now 6-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the MIAC, will face Hamline in a home-and-home series Thursday and Saturday before hosting UW-Stevens Point on December 13 to close out the 2005 portion of the schedule.
Men’s Hockey Skates Past Concordia 7-0
Led by a pair of goals each by defensemen Jon Keseley and Keith Detlefsen, the Gustavus men's hockey team picked up its first MIAC victory and moved its record to 4-2-0 with a 7-0 win over Concordia College on Friday night. The Cobbers drop to 5-4-0 overall, 0-3 in the MIAC with the loss. The two teams will lace up the skates again and hit the ice on Saturday for a 2:05 face-off at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
Women’s Hockey Holds Off Concordia 2-1
Junior Andrea Peterson racked up 14 shots, recording only one goal, but it was enough to lead the Gustavus women's hockey team past Concordia, 2-1, Friday night in Moorhead. The Gusties improve to 5-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers drop to 0-6-2 overall, 0-2-1 in the league. The two teams will face off again Saturday at 2 p.m. in Moorhead.
Women’s Swimming and Diving Downs Concordia, 131-100
The Gustavus Adolphus women's swimming and diving team evened its dual record at 2-2 with a 131-100 win over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday at Lund Natatorium in St. Peter. Junior Beth Hartman (Eagan, Minn.) figured in three event wins, winning the 200 and 500 freestyles, while also swimming a leg on the 200 medley relay team. The Gusties will be back in action December 2-3 when they participate in the Carthage Invitational and the St. Cloud Diving Invitational.
Volleyball Swept by Cobbers 3-0
Junior Becca Thompson registered a game-high 18 kills, but it was not enough as the Gustavus volleyball team was swept by Concordia, 3-0, Friday night in Moorhead. The Cobbers improve to 19-2, 6-2 in the MIAC, while the Gusties fall to 12-11 overall, 3-6 in the league. Gustavus returns home to face Macalester (10-15, 3-5 MIAC) on Wednesday.
