Junior Becca Thompson (Mankato, Minn.) registered a game-high 18 kills, but it was not enough as the Gustavus volleyball team was swept by Concordia, 3-0, Friday night in Moorhead. The Cobbers improve to 19-2, 6-2 in the MIAC, while the Gusties fall to 12-11 overall, 3-6 in the league.

The Cobbers took advantage of 11 Gustie attack errors to take game one, 30-23. Gustavus put down 19 kills to Concordia’s 14, but hit with only a .167 hitting percentage.

Gustavus’ hitting percentage improved to .244 in game two, but the Cobbers took control of the game, committing only three errors on 45 total attacks for a .333 hitting percentage and a 30-24 win.

Concordia took game three by the same 30-24 score, converting 20 of 48 attack attempts into kills for a .312 attack percentage. The Gusties’ efficiency in game three fell to .160, with 14 kills on 50 attempts.

Thompson’s 18 kills led all players, while Becca Shane led the Cobbers with 14 kills. Jennifer Thelemann (So., Le sueur, Minn.) added 12 kills for the Gusties, while first-year Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) chipped in with 24 assists and 14 digs.

Gustavus returns home to face Macalester (10-15, 3-5 MIAC) on Wednesday.
