Junior Andrea Peterson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) racked up 14 shots, recording only one goal, but it was enough to lead the Gustavus women’s hockey team past Concordia, 2-1, Friday night in Moorhead. The Gusties improve to 5-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers drop to 0-6-2 overall, 0-2-1 in the league. The two teams will face off again Saturday at 2 p.m. in Moorhead.

Peterson put the Gusties on the board just 4:26 into the game, depositing a puck past Cobber goalie Jenna Johnson to give Gustavus a quick 1-0 lead. For Peterson, it was her sixth goal of the season. First-years Liz Haakenson (Moorhead, Minn.) and Brigitte Bartholdi (Cloquet, Minn.) were credited with assists on the play.

With 5:49 gone in the second period, first-year Christine Wicker (Apple Valley, Minn.) deposited the eventual game-winner past Johnson to give the Gusties a 2-0 lead. The Cobbers’ Ceara Bergsrud slipped a puck past Gustavus goalie Kitty Hurley (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) to cut the lead to 2-1, but Concordia would get no closer.

For the game, the Gusties threw 40 shots at Johnson, 14 alone by Peterson. With a league-high 22 third-period goals coming into the game, Gustavus was held scoreless in the final frame for only the second time this season.
