    Johnson Earns Second MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

    Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) went a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play at the highly-competitive Stag-Hen Invitational, which featured a field of eight nationally-ranked teams. For his performance, Johnson has been named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

    Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) began the Gustavus men’s tennis team’s dual match season with a singles victory against a Division I opponent. Playing at No. 2 singles, Johnson dropped the first set, 6-1, before fighting back to win consecutive breakers 7-6, 7-6 against North Dakota.

    The Gustavus men’s tennis doubles team of Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manikin Sabot, Va.) claimed third place Saturday at the ITA Cup, defeating James Wei and Varun Shanker of Caltech 7-5, 6-3 at Berry College.     The Gustavus men’s doubles team of Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manikin Sabot, Va.) posted a comeback victory in their first match at the ITA Cup on Thursday, defeating Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth of Trinity (Texas) 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
