Women’s Hockey Hosts Bethel In MIAC Playoff Semifinals

The No. 5-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team begins MIAC playoffs Saturday, hosting Bethel in the semifinal round. Puck-drop is set for 2 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink. After claiming a share of their 15th MIAC regular season championship, the Gusties enter the game with a 19-2-4 record, while the Royals are 12-12-2 after defeating Concordia 4-3 in the quarterfinal round Thursday.

The No. 6-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend with a series against Saint Benedict. The Gusties enter the weekend 17-2-4 overall and 11-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Blazers are 2-19-1 overall and 1-14-1 in the league. Friday's game in St. Cloud starts at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's Senior Day at Don Roberts Ice Rink begins at 2 p.m. 

Amanda DiNella Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete Of The Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week on Monday and Gustavus goalie Amanda DiNella (Jr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) was recognized with the award. DiNella allowed only one goal in a two-game series at Concordia as Gustavus swept the Cobbers over the weekend.

Women’s Hockey Completes Sweep Over Concordia, Wins 4-1

The shutout streak is over but the winning streak continues as the Gustavus women’s hockey team completed the series sweep over Concordia Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory. The lone goal allowed ended a streak of four consecutive shutouts for the Gusties, but they were able to score four goals in the second period to improve to 17-2-4 overall and 11-2-3 in the MIAC.

Women’s Hockey Notches Fourth-Straight Shutout, 3-0 Over Concordia

For the fourth consecutive game, the Gustavus women’s hockey team shut out its opponent, blanking Concordia 3-0 on Friday night. The No. 6-ranked Gusties recorded their eighth shutout of the season, improving to 16-2-4 overall and 10-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 9-10-3 overall and 6-6-3 in the league. The four consecutive shutouts mark the longest streak by the Gusties since the 2009-10 season.

Friday’s game at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Arena begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game starts at 2 p.m. The Gusties enter the series 15-2-4 overall and 9-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers are 9-9-3 overall and 6-5-3 in the league.

Rooney, Klein Named January Student-Athletes Of The Month

Men's track and field hurdler and jumper Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) and women's hockey forward Kaitlyn Klein (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College January Male and Female Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Déjà Vu, Women’s Hockey Blanks St. Kate’s 3-0, Clinches Playoff Berth

New day, same story. For the second straight game the Gustavus women’s hockey team Saturday shut out St. Catherine 3-0 to complete the series sweep and clinch a spot in the MIAC playoffs. With their third consecutive shutout, the Gusties improve to 15-2-4 overall and 9-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Wildcats drop to 6-14-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the league.
