Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener 5-3 At Wartburg

The Gustavus men's soccer team started its 2016 season with a 5-3 loss at Wartburg College Thursday evening.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team kicks off its 2016 campaign tonight at Wartburg and the anticipation for playing a competitive schedule is running high for a relatively young Gustie squad. This season’s team features two seniors in Patrick Roth (Stillwater, Minn.) and Henry Brose (Hudson, Wis.), along with five juniors, 11 sophomores, and 11 freshmen. Although the bulk of the 2016 Gusties are underclassmen, eighth-year head coach Mike Middleton doesn’t feel there is a lack of skill on the team.

Gustavus Set to Induct Nine New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has chosen nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2016 inductees include Ryan Boutwell ’99 (Football), Scott Crowell ’01 (Soccer), Heather Fitch ’96 (Gymnastics), Rick Hjelm ’83 (Hockey), Molly Nemes ’01 (Gymnastics, Track & Field), Bret Newcomb ’92 (Hockey), Dana Peterson ’96 (Cross Country, Track & Field), Rod Swenson ’99 (Baseball), and Larry Zelenz (Coach). This group will be honored at the Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Alumni Hall at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, following the Hall of Fame football game against Saint John's at 1 p.m.

Athletic Department Hosts Special Olympics Aquatics And Basketball Competitions In February

The Gustavus Adolphus Athletic Department concluded the Special Olympics winter season by hosting back-to-back area competitions on consecutive weekends in February. On Sunday, Feb. 7, Gustavus hosted the Area 9 aquatics competition at the Vic Gustafson Pool and on Sunday, Feb. 14, it held the Area 9 basketball tournament in the Lund Center Forum.

MIAC Releases Fall Academic All-Conference Teams, 26 Gusties Honored

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honored the league’s top performers in athletics and in the classroom with the announcement of the 2015 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams on Friday.
