4×400 Relay Sets School Record At Drake Relays, Geyen Finishes 9th In 110 Hurdles

Gustavus senior Tyler Geyen finished third in his heat of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.66 at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday. Geyen narrowly missed qualifying for the finals as he was ninth overall and the top Division III finisher in the preliminaries. The 4x400 relay team of Geyen, Matt Leeb, Cole Carlson, and Colby Citrowske posted a time of 3:16.63 to finish fourth in its heat and 10th overall.

Lisa Brown, Tyler Geyen, and 4×400 Men’s Relay Team To Compete At Drake Relays

Five track and field athletes will represent Gustavus at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday. Senior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) is the lone Division III competitor entered in the javelin, which will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday. Last year, Brown finished seventh with a mark of 156-6. Senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn.) will compete in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries at 11:35 a.m. with the final taking place on Saturday at 3:49 p.m.

Baseball Battles For Doubleheader Split Against UW-La Crosse

The Gustavus baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to earn a 7-4 win in game two of a doubleheader with UW-La Crosse on Tuesday in St. Peter. The Eagles prevailed in game one 15-2. Adam Bren was the winning pitcher in game two for the Gusties. Gustavus moved to 14-16 overall, while UW-La Crosse moved to 17-11 overall.

Tyler Geyen Named MIAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus senior track athlete Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 20, 2009. Geyen took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.62 at the Carleton Relays in Northfield on Saturday. His performance helped the Gusties win the meet with 163 points.

Track and Field Set To Host Drake Alternative Meet on Saturday

Sam Broderius Named MIAC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus sophomore field athlete Sam Broderius (Hector, Minn./Buffalo Lake-Hector) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 20, 2009. Broderius finished first and provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in both the shot put and the discus throw at the Manitou Classic hosted by St. Olaf on Saturday.

Baseball Struggles In 9-6 And 8-0 Losses To Hamline

The Gustavus baseball team dropped a pair of games to Hamline in 9-6 and 8-0 decisions on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties struggled on the mound as the Piper hitters combined for 26 hits in both games, and were kept off balance at the plate by the Hamline pitchers. Gustavus moved to 13-15 overall and 6-6 in the MIAC, while the Pipers moved to 15-14 overall and 7-5 in the MIAC.

Lisa Brown Finishes 12th In Javelin Throw At Mt. Sac Relays

Gustavus Adolphus women's field athlete Lisa Brown (Sr., Lake Crystal, Minn.) finished 12th in the javelin throw at the Mt. SAC Relays with a NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 147 feet, 9 inches in Walnut, Calif. on Friday. Her mark ranks second in Division III this season. Brown was the only Division III athlete to compete in a field that included 22 of the top collegiate and Olympic javelin athletes in the country.

Gustavus Baseball Doubleheader Versus Hamline Moved Up To 11 AM Start

The Gustavus Adolphus College baseball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at 1 pm in St. Peter against Hamline has been moved up to 11 am in hopes of beating the rainy weather forecasted for Saturday afternoon.

Baseball Splits Doubleheader At Carleton 1-6, 6-0

The Gustavus baseball team picked up a doubleheader split against Carleton on Wednesday afternoon in Northfield. The Knights came away with a 6-1 win in the first game, but Andrew Woitas and Kevin Hagen combined to hurl a one-hit shutout in game two to help the Gusties earn the split in a 6-0 decision. Alan Woitas led the squad at the plate as he combined to go for 5-for-9 and scored three runs in both games.
