Johnson, Whaling Wrap Up Careers at NCAA Championships

Gustavus men’s tennis seniors Chase Johnson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Manakin Sabot, Va.) wrapped up their collegiate careers Friday at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Gustavus men’s tennis seniors Chase Johnson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Manakin Sabot, Va.) wrapped up their collegiate careers Friday at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.

Whaling lost his first round singles match to No. 5 seed Jack Katzman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-2, 6-1.

Whaling and Johnson then teamed up for doubles play and dropped a three-set match to Yangeng Jiang and Grant Urken of Bowdoin 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Both Johnson and Whaling finish their careers as All-Americans after taking third place at the 2018 ITA Oracle Cup.
