ELK RIVER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team got off to a slow start on day one of the Twin Cities Classic by finishing in tenth place. The Gusties shot a 318 which is only 24 strokes behind the leader, Saint Johns, and with two days to play there is plenty of time to catch up.

“It was a tough day for our team,” said head coach Scott Moe. “We just couldn’t get comfortable on the golf course for some reason, but the nice thing about this event is that each day presents a completely different course.

Jacob Pederson (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Christian Thoen (Jr., Dawson, Minn.) led the Gusties today by each posting 74, which puts them in a tie for eighth place and they both sit five strokes behind the overall leader. Max Savini (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.) had a solid round for the Gusties shooting a 77, while Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn.) followed right behind him with a score of 78.

“We look forward to getting out and playing at the Links at Northfork tomorrow and having all of our guys contribute,” said coach Moe.
