BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Five members of the Gustavus men’s tennis team were named to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, announced Thursday by the MIAC office. Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) and Chase Johnson (So., Golden Valley, Minn.) were named to both the singles and doubles team, Zach Ekstein (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) was named to the singles squad while Tommy Entwistle (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Patrick Whaling (So., Manikob Sabot, Va.) earned a spot on the doubles team.
For the third-straight year, Alhouni earns a spot on both of the singles and doubles teams. He led the Gusties in the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles, posting a 31-5 singles record and a 22-9 doubles record during the regular season, highlighted by an ITA singles title, ITA Oracle Cup third place crown, and two MIAC Athlete of the Week honors.
Johnson earns his first MIAC honors in his second season in Black and Gold, finishing the regular season with a 21-9 singles record and 22-7 doubles record. Playing a majority of his singles at the No. 4 or No. 5 spot, Johnson posted the second most wins on the team, was unbeaten in 10 matches from Feb. 11-March 18, and went undefeated with a 6-0 mark during conference play. Competing in the No. 2 doubles position, Johnson and Entwistle led Gustavus with 22 wins.
Ekstein earns his second-straight spot on the MIAC singles team with a 15-6 regular season singles record. Holding down the No. 2 position for the Gusties, Ekstein was unbeaten during MIAC competition with a 5-0 record and was unbeaten in 11 matches from Feb. 4-March 18.
Earning his second honor on the MIAC doubles team, Entwistle and his doubles partner Chase Johnson recorded 22 doubles wins to lead the Gusties. Entwistle and Johnson held down the No. 2 doubles spot and went undefeated during conference play at 6-0 while Entwistle also notched a 16-4 doubles record during dual matches.
In his second season for the Gusties, Whaling earns his first spot on the MIAC doubles team. Whaling went 18-7 during doubles play, competing with Alhouni in the No. 1 doubles position. The duo began the season making their way to the ITA doubles semifinals. Whaling also garnered a MIAC Athlete of the Week honor on March 21 after going 4-0 in wins over Coe College and Saint John’s University as the Gusties won their 17th consecutive victory.
Additionally, Gabe Steinwand (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
