Elizabeth Weiers Wins Hammer Throw At Carleton Relays

Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s track and field team posted three top three finishes at the Carleton Relays held on Saturday at the Laird Stadium Track and Field Complex. No team scores recorded.

The Gusties were led Elizabeth Weiers (Sr., Le Center, Minn.) who turned in the team’s lone first place finish. Weiers took gold in the hammer throw after posting a toss of 167-feet 7-inches.

Megan Eckberg (Fy., Gaylord, Minn.) and Kaitlin Bembenek (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) also turned in finished on the podium. Eckberg finished runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet 2.25-inches and also placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.00. Bembenek took third in the 400-meter dash in 59.52 and added a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 26.47.

Caitlin Fermoyle (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) led they way in the distance races with a fifth place performance in the 1,5000-meter run (4:50.70). Marit Sonnesyn (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) finished behind Fermoyle in the 1,5000 in eighth with a time of 4:56.42. Mata Agre (So., Medina, Minn.) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (19:29.26), and Marit Henckel (Sr., Viroqua, Wis.) took eighth (20:09.23) behind her.

Rachel Gunderson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Haley Kemper (Jr., Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) rounded out the Black and Gold’s top track competitors. Gunderson placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.77), and Kemper finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (74.40) and fourth in the triple jump (34’ 0.75”).

Sarah Swanson (Jr., Fairbanks, Alaska) recorded three finishes inside the top eight in the throws. She placed sixth in the discus (118’ 9”), seventh in the hammer (134’ 2”), and eighth shot (40’ 7.75”). Rachel Colter (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn.) took sixth in the javelin (103’ 7”) and seventh in the shot put (40’ 11”), while Marissa Morgan (Fy., Rockford, Ill.) took fifth in the javelin (107’ 1”).

The Gustavus track and field team will cap its home schedule next weekend when it hosts the Drake Relays on Saturday, April 25. Complete Results
