Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s track and field team had a strong showing at the Carleton Relays on Saturday at the Laird Stadium Track and Field Complex. No team scores were recorded.

The Gusties were led by sophomore Sean O’Connell (St. Peter, Minn.) who did his damage in the sprints. O’Connell took gold in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.34 and eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.276.

Thomas Knobbe (So., Decorah, Iowa) led the way in the distance races with a pair of top eight finishes. Knobbe finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:42.24 and eighth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:04.66. John Benson (So., Moorhead, Minn.) finished fifth in the 10,000-meter (33:49.96), and Sam Renier (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (16:31.74).

Scott Williams (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Ed ReMine (So., Mantorville, Minn.) rounded out Gustavus’s top track competitors in the 400-meter hurdles in sixth (56.70) and eighth (58.34), respectively.

In the field events, Derek Huntley (So., Maplewood, Minn.) cleared 14-feet 8-inches to place fourth in the pole vault, and Jesse Scheiterlein (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) recorded a toss of 165-feet 1-inch in a sixth place effort in the hammer throw.

The Gustavus track and field team will cap its home schedule next weekend when it hosts the Drake Relays on Saturday, April 25.
