ST. JAMES, MINN. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team defeated Minnesota State University, Mankato 653-655 in a two-day dual meet held in Mankato yesterday, and the Southfork Creek Golf Course in St. James, Minnesota today. MSU had the meet’s individual champion in Dani Selberg, but Gustavus held down places 2-5 to secure the victory.

“The course we played was very difficult because of the high winds and cool temperatures,” said assistant coach Randy Stuckey. “The conditions made it tough for both teams to score well, but I thought our girls, as they did yesterday, handled it very well. We’re continuing to improve each meet and I’m looking forward to a good week of practice to prepare for a big contest next weekend at Carleton.”

Lauren Johnson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and Jessica Nelson (Fy., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for second place individually after each shot a 162 (+18). McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) was right behind them with a 163, good for fourth place, and Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) rounded out the top five with a 165 (+21).

The Gusties will return to the course next weekend when it will head to Northfield, Minnesota to take part in the Carleton College Spring Invitational held Saturday and Sunday.
