Men’s Outdoor Track & Field In 10th After Day One Of MIAC Championships

Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s outdoor track and field team is in 10th place with seven points following the opening day of the 2014 MIAC Championships being held this weekend at the Ade Christenson Track and Field Complex on the campus of St. Olaf College.

The University of St. Thomas leads the way with 65 points, St. Olaf College ranks second with 50 points, and Saint John’s University rounds out the day one top three in third with 37 points

Gustavus senior Blair Riegel (Lakeville, Minn.) turned in Gustavus’s top performance of day with a fourth place finish in the long jump after recording a leap of 22-feet 2.5-inches. Riegel ranked seventh in the event heading into the competition with a previous season-best of 21-feet 7.5-inches.

Rounding out the team’s top field performers was senior Pat Tracy (St. Louis Park, Minn.) who finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 46-feet 4.25-inches. Tracy’s throw was also a season-long, besting his previous best of 45-feet 1-inch.

On the track, senior Joe Renier (Cambridge, Minn.) posted the Black and Gold’s best run of the day. Renier posted a time of 32:57.69 for a ninth place finish in the 10,000-meter run.

Day One Results

Saturday’s action will start with field events at 12 p.m. and the track events will begin at 1 p.m. The full schedule of events is available online. Saturday’s final event begins at 4:40 p.m., and there will be a short awards ceremony following the conclusion of the meet to honor both team champions.

The top three individuals in each event and the first-place relay team will automatically earn All-Conference honors, and the fourth- through sixth-place finishers in each open event and second- through sixth-place relay teams will all be named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The MIAC has a web page dedicated to the event, and complete results, recaps, and multimedia coverage of the championships will be available on that site throughout the event. There will be live results (MEN – WOMEN) available for all events courtesy of Apple Raceberry Jam. Admission for the event is $7 for adults and $3 for students per day, with children ages 5 and under admitted free. MIAC passes will be honored.
