Women’s Golf Places Second At Wartburg Invite, Taylor Drenttel Takes First

Waverly, Iowa – After shooting a 329 on the second day of competition at the Wartburg Spring Invitational held Saturday and Sunday at the Centennial Oaks Golf Club, the Gustavus women’s golf team finished in second place with a two-day total 647 (+71).  Gustie senior Taylor Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), who led the 37-player field after day one, kept a firm grasp on the top spot, winning the tournament with a 36-hole total 155 (+11).

UW-Eau Claire held on to the lead on day two, recording a 322 on the final round to take gold with a team score of 638 (+62).  Wartburg rounded out the top three in third with a 655 (+79).

After firing a 76 (+4), her second-lowest round of the season, on the opening day, Taylor Drenttel capped the weekend with a 79 (+7) on Sunday.  By taking the top spot on the podium this weekend, the senior Inver Grove Heights, Minn. native now has two tournament victories on the season.  Drenttel won the Division 3 Classic earlier on Sept. 17-18, recording a season-low score of 153 (+9).  Her 155 at the Wartburg Invite is Drenttel’s second best 36-hole total of the school year.

Rounding out the podium was Carleton’s Kelsey Moede in second (157, +13) and Wartburg’s Paige Klostermann in third (158, +14).  Champion UW-Eau Claire had four players finish inside the top-10.

Next in line for the Gusties was Ann Jackson (Fargo, N.D.).  Jackson shot an 82 on day two to finish with a 162 (+18).  Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) and Rikka Holiday (Bozeman, Mont.) finished amongst the five-player bottleneck in 11th place.  Falk registered a 79-86-165 (+21) and Holiday turned in an 83-82-165 (+21).  Kayleigh Dittes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) rounded out Gustavus’ scored participants with a 172 (+28), finishing 25th.

Individuals competing on behalf of the Black and Gold included Liz Strom (Fargo, N.D.), Jordan Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), and Jessica Skaare (Blue Earth, Minn.).  Strom placed 21st with a 171 (+27), Drenttel finished 28th at 177 (+33), and Skaare came in 29th with a 188 (+44).

The Gustavus women’s golf team will round out its spring regular season schedule at the Carleton Invitational next weekend, April 28-29 in Northfield, Minn.
