Trevor Gervais recorded his lowest round of the season Sunday after shooting a 71 (-1).

After touring the country and much of Minnesota throughout its 2012 campaign, the Gustavus men’s golf team sits in first place after day one of its first home meet of the season – the Bobby Krig Invitational – held at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. and the Le Sueur Country Club in Le Sueur, Minn. The Gusties shot a 294 (+6) in the first round Sunday and sit in a tie for first with Saint John’s University. The University of St. Thomas rounds out the top three with a 297 (+9).

The Black and Gold posted three golfers in the top-ten with Trevor Gervais leading the way in a tie for second place. Gervais shot a 71 (-1), his lowest round of the season, while Simon Erlandsson and Tyler McMorrow each shot a 74 (+2) and are tied for ninth. Dennis Granath of Saint John’s leads the field of 96 golfers after shooting a 70 (-2).

With three golfers in the top ten, Gustavus also received three other top-20 performances. Andrew Oakes is tied for 17th after hitting a 75 (+3), while Coby Rowley and Alex Pederson each registered a 76 (+4) and are tied for 20th.

Round two of the tournament begins Monday at the same courses.
