Men’s And Women’s Track & Field Have Strong Showing At Lee Krough Invitational

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted their first meet of the season Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. and garnered many spots on the podium. The men’s squad collected seven individual first place finishes, while the women came away with three.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted their first meet of the season Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. and garnered many spots on the podium. The men’s squad collected seven individual first place finishes, while the women came away with three.

Also competing in the meet were Minnesota State University-Mankato, Minnesota State University-Morris, Macalester and Bethany Lutheran.

Blair Riegel and Steve Groskreutz paced the Gustie men with two gold medals each. Riegel took first in the long jump with a distance of 6.72 meters and in the triple jump, clearing 14.45 meters. He also took second in the 100-meter at 10.94 and third in the 200 at 22.27. Groskreutz’ two victories came in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.44 and in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.63. In the mid-distance race, Eric Jorgenson posted the fasted time in the 800 at 1:56.74. Mark Stice also claimed the top of the podium for the Gusties in the hammer throw after a toss of 46.58 meters.

For the women’s team, it was Sara Lundgren leading the way on the track with a first place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 59.09. In the field, Emily Klatt won the long jump after clearing a distance of 5.26 meters and Allyson Voss posted the best height in the pole vault at 3.41 meters.

The Gustie men and women return to the track on April 26-28 for the Drake Relays held in Des Moines, Iowa.
