The 2010 Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track team will look to it’s five returning All-Conference performers to help the squad improve on the team’s eighth place finish at last season’s MIAC Indoor Championships.  The Gusties top five returners are senior Cole Carlson (Mora, Minn./Mora), juniors Matt Leeb (Kasota, Minn./St. Peter), Colby Citrowske (Canby, Minn./Canby), and Max Hanson (Montrose, Minn.), and sophomore Matt Dvorak (Burnsville, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran).  Hanson finished in third place in the 600-yard dash (1:14.38) and is the only All-Conference returner in an individual event.  The 4×200 meter relay team of Tyler Geyen, Carlson, Leeb and Dvorak finished second, as the 4×400 meter relay team of Carlson, Geyen, Citrowske, and Leeb finished third.

To be competitive this season, the Gusties will need improvement from seniors Brian Anderson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and John Kennedy (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids), junior Justin Lund (Cyrus, Minn./Morris Area), and sophomore Alex Thornton (Byron, Minn./Byron).  Anderson finished fourth in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw.  Kennedy finished sixth in the one mile, while Lund and Thornton were members of the sixth place finishing medley relay team.

The men’s indoor track and field team has looked good in the early months of practice and Head Coach Dale Bahr expects an overall improvement from last season.  “Guys have put in a lot of hard work in the weight room over the Fall and Summer months and have returned noticeably bigger.  Hopefully that translates to faster times and better results,” said Bahr.  The men’s team lacks depth in the vault and distance events, yet will be strong in the throws and sprints.

Select members of the Gustavus men’s indoor track team will take part in the Bethel University Invite on Saturday in Arden Hills, Minn.
