ST. PAUL, Minn. – Both the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are in fifth place after Saturday’s round of events at the MIAC Indoor Championships. The Gustie men have 41 points, while the women have 48 points. Bethel leads both the men’s and women’s fields with 81.5 and 71 points, respectively.

Birgen Nelson (Sr., Edina) continued her impressive run in the 60-hurdles, setting the MIAC indoor meet record with a time of 8.56 in the prelims and then bettering that time to 8.53 in the final to claim the title. Danielle Miller (Jr., Waconia) earned All-Conference in the 60-hurdles by taking third place in 9.24.

Nelson also earned All-Conference in the 60-meter, taking third place in 7.865. Kate Carlson (So.) finished a hair ahead of Nelson in second with a time of 7.861. Miller took eighth in 8.22.

Megan Geraets (So., Mankato) added to the All-Conference list by finishing the 400-meter in second place, crossing the line in 59.06. Madi Kes (Jr., Jordan) was one spot shy of All-MIAC honors in the triple jump, taking fourth place with a leap of 37-4.5.

Josh Beiswanger (Sr., Mankato) highlighted the men’s day one competition by winning the weight throw with a distance of 56-4.5. Tyler Smith (So., Norwood Young America) earned All-Conference in the 800-meter, taking second place in 1:56.93. Earning another All-MIAC honor for the men was Tucker Wallin (Sr., Red Wing) in the mile, finishing third with a school record time of 4:16.48, breaking the previous record of 4:16.74 set by John Koenig in 1985. And Danny Bies (So., New Hope) earned the fourth All-Conference accolade of the day, taking third in the high jump, clearing 6-2.25.

Matthew Skelly (Jr.) was just shy of All-Conference in the 60-meter, running a 7.06 for fourth place.

Sunday’s field events begin at 10:15 a.m. with track events starting at 1 p.m.
