MONTICELLO, Minn. – No. 19 Gustavus men’s golf wrapped up the regular season on a cold, wet, and windy Sunday with a second place finish at the Saint John’s Spring Invitational, held at Monticello Country Club. The Gusties scored a 19-over par 303, five strokes behind the host Johnnies in a field of 16 teams.

After winning yesterday’s SJU Winter Classic in Sauk Centre with a three-under 69, Jacob Pedersen (Sr., Minnetonka) continued his hot streak with a second place finish today, carding a one-over par 72. His round included three birdies and four bogies. Max Ullan (Sr., Blaine) tied for eighth with a 75, posting 14 pars and four bogies one day removed from tying for second with a one-under 71.  Sam Skaar (Sr., Coleraine) tied for 16th at 77 and Wyatt Wasko (Jr., Lake Elmo) tied for 28th with a 79. Teddy Kaste (Fy, Apple Valley) led the third team, tying for eighth with a 75. Jack Reinardy (Fy., Andover), also on the third team, tied for 13th with a 76 and had the only eagle of the day for Gustavus, carding a two on the par-four first hole. The Gustie “C” team finished in sixth place with a 310, while the “B” team tied for 11th with a 325.

Although we didn’t score as well as we did yesterday we did beat a lot of teams finishing second,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “Again, another very windy, cold, and rainy day. I thought the guys just really battled through some very adverse conditions. Very proud of Jacob Pedersen who was medalist yesterday and runner-up today taking first for the two day total. Also for Max Ullen who ended up runner-up in the two day total score. Now we need to continue the hard work we’ve been putting in for potential tournament opportunities that may come our way this spring.”

Gustavus, ranked No. 2 in Region VI, now waits for a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, held May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
