SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team finished opening rounds at the MIAC Championship in second place after shooting 311 (+23). St. Kate’s currently is ahead by seven strokes.

“The gals came out and played a very solid round today,” said Coach Randall Stuckey. “You could tell in their pre-round routine that they were focused and ready to go. Their attitude effort and commitment was there the whole round and they were a solid team encouraging everyone and keeping them focused on the shots ahead. We had several fantastic approach shots and we made a lot of putts to help our score. I like the position we are in after day one and hoping we can do the same for our second round tomorrow.”

Sydney Regalado (Jr., Rosemount) put the Gusties ahead after shooting a 75 (+3) and is ranked fourth overall in the tournament. Emily Kratz (Jr., Edina) sits a stroke behind in fifth place, 76 (+4). Erin Ericson (Jr., Onalaska, Wis.) and Laurel Ward (So., Bozeman, Mont.) tie in seventeenth after shooting 80 (+7), and Hannah Hubbart (So., Hastings) finished the day recording an 83 (+11).
