DULUTH, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team played their final game before break Friday night and fell to St. Scholastica by a score of 4-1. With the loss the Gusties fall to 5-6 overall while the Saints improve to 5-6-1.
Neither team was able to get much going early in the first period, but the Saints would find the back of the net at the 12:58 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
St. Scholastica would take control of the game midway through the second period, scoring goals at the 9:19 mark and the 11:07 to take a 3-0 lead. The Saints would add another goal 16:09 into the period to add a four-goal lead.
The Gusties would find the back of the net midway through the third period. Three Gustavus players would notch their first collegiate points, as Hunter Johnson (Fy., Nicollet) notched his first collegiate goal 9:56 into the frame, assisted by Peter Colby (Fy., Edina) and Benji Mickel (Fy., Durango, Colo.). That would be all the Gusties could muster though as they fell 4-1.
Filip Grancarov (Fy., Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) got the start in net, making 25 saves while allowing four goals in the loss.
Gustavus will next be in action on Jan. 10 when they travel to St. Olaf for a 7 p.m.
