SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team hosted No. 7 Augsburg Friday evening and fell to the Auggies by a score of 3-1. With the loss the Gusties fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the MIAC while Augsburg moves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Augsburg took control of the contest early, scoring 4:20 into the first period to go up 1-0. The Gusties would play Augsburg even the remainder of the period, but a major penalty on the Gusties with 1:43 remaining in the first period would carry over to the second.

The Auggies took advantage of the extra man, getting a power play goal 1:21 into the second. Due to the major penalty, the Auggies stayed a man up and used it to notch another power play score 2:01 into second frame and take a 3-0 lead. The teams played scoreless the remainder of the period with the Auggies outshooting Gustavus 18-7.

Trailing 3-0 heading to the third the Gusties would fight back. 5:31 into the period, the Gusties got a power play goal from Tyler Ebner (So., La Crosse, Wis.), assisted by Toby Sengvongxay (So., Luverne) and Tyler Rock (Jr., Savage). They would apply pressure again late, gaining a power play, but not finding the back of the net, as the Auggies would take home the 3-1 win.

Robbie Goor (Jr., Anoka) got the start in net, making a career-high 41 saves in the contest while allowing the three goals.

The two teams will play again tomorrow night in Minneapolis at 7 p.m.
