Men’s Soccer Travels to Martin Luther Thursday Posted on September 5th, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team will travel to Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. contest. The Gusties will put their 1-0 record on the line versus the Knights who are 1-1-1.

Last time they met: The two teams met exactly one year ago with the Gusties prevailing 4-0. Gustavus took control early and kept that control for the duration of the game outshooting the Knights 27-7. The Gusties got a hat trick effort from Arthur Parens in the contest while Trace Dobson (Jr., Sioux Falls, Minn.) scored the fourth goal off a header.

Scouting the Gusties: The Black and Gold have played just one contest this season as they defeated Cornell 5-0 on Aug. 30. The Gusties got a strong performance from Cole Schwartz (So., Jakarta, Indonesia) who recorded a hat trick in his first career contest for Gustavus, while they also got goals from Nolan Garvin (Jr., Batavia, Ill.) and Matt Gibbons (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.). Raphael Cattelin (Fy., Edina, Minn.) had two assists in the contest, while Schwartz added one. Wesley Sanders (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) made four saves in net in the contest and allowed no goals in his collegiate debut.

Scouting the Knights: Martin Luther has played three contests this season, going 1-1-1 and most recently defeating Nebraska Christian 8-0 Monday. The Knights have outscored opponents 10-8 this season with Joe Graumann leading the team with three goals and an assist for seven points while Luke Meihack has two goals and a pair assists to total six points. Josiah Mittelstadt has started all three games in net, making 30 saves while allowing eight goals for a save percentage of .789.
