Women’s Hockey Set for Weekend Series with Saint Mary’s

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team will continue MIAC play Friday when they take on Saint Mary’s in a 7 p.m. contest at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Saturday’s game between the Gusties (9-5-3, 5-3-2 MIAC) and the Cardinals (6-7-4, 3-5-2 MIAC) will be in Winona, Minn. with a 4 p.m. start time.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series

This is the 55th all-time meeting between the Gusties and Cardinals with Gustavus currently holding a 44-6-4 edge. The last time the two teams met on Jan. 27, 2018 the Black and Gold took home a 5-0 victory.

Scouting the Gusties

Gustavus, who averages 2.2 goals per contest and allows 1.7, comes into the series most recently tying Augsburg on Saturday by a score of 2-2. They have three players who have amassed double digit points on the year in Allie Stanger (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.), Lilia Scheid (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.), and Kristina Press (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.). Stanger leads the trio with 13 points on six goals and seven assists while Scheid (6g, 4a) and Press (5g, 5a) each have 10. Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Minn.) has started 16 games in net making 358 saves while allowing 28 goals for a save percentage of .927.

Scouting the Cardinals

Saint Mary’s is most recently coming off a 1-0 win over St. Catherine on Saturday. Natalie Ryan scored the lone goal in the contest and she is tied for the team lead with six goals along with Sophia Zebro. Courtney Moser leads all Cardinals in points as she has 10 on two goals and eight assists. Saint Mary’s is averaging 1.8 goals per game while allowing 1.9. They have had three different goalies split time in net this season who have made a combined 431 saves while allowing 35 goals for a save percentage of .925.
