DiNella Becomes All-Time Saves Leader, Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 4 Hamline in Overtime

The Gustavus women’s hockey team fell in an overtime contest to No. 4 Hamline by a score of 3-2 Friday night.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team fell in an overtime contest to No. 4 Hamline by a score of 3-2 Friday night. In the second period, when she made her 23rd save of the contest, Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Minn.) became the all-time saves leader at Gustavus as she passed Danielle Justice.

The Gusties jumped out early on the Pipers getting a first-period goal from Amelia Vosen (Jr., Nowthen, Minn.) at the 16:05 mark.

The game went scoreless for the rest of period one and all of period two before the Gusties struck early in the third period to take a 1-0 lead. At 1:45 into the third period Vosen made a perfect pass to Madigan Goldsworthy (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) in the slot who found the top left corner of the net for the 2-0 lead.

The rest of the game was all Pipers though as they found the back of the net at the 4:32 mark and then again at 13:54 to tie the game at two apiece.

The Pipers then got a power play in the overtime period and took advantage with 1:45 left to seal the 3-2 victory.

The Pipers outshot the Gusties in the contest by a tally of 38 to 26. DiNella made 35 saves on the night while allowing three goals.

The Gusties and Pipers will play the second half of the home-home doubleheader tomorrow afternoon in St. Paul at the TRIA rink at 2 p.m.
