SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team will play host to the University of Northwestern Eagles on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 0-1 overall while the Eagles are 2-0.

GUSTAVUS GAME NOTES

THE SERIES

Saturday’s game marks the 10th meeting between Gustavus and Northwestern (Minn.) on the hardwood, with the Gusties holding a 8-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams previously met in St. Paul, Minn. Nov. 14, 2015, with UNW prevailing with a 75-73 victory.

SCOUTING THE GUSTIES

The Gusties opened their season against NAIA opponent Mayville State on Saturday and fell by a score of 93-68. Vannis Smith (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the way in scoring as he tallied 13 points while Spencer Tollefson (Sr., New Richland, Minn.) notched 11. Nolan Malo (Fy., Owatonna, Minn.) started his collegiate career off with a solid night scoring nine points and adding a team-high six rebounds.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Northwestern comes into the contest having last defeated Hamline on Thursday by a score of 91-89 in overtime. The Eagles are led offensively by Anderson Bazile Jr. who is averaging 21 points on the season who is shooting 52.0 percent on the season and averaging five rebounds per contest. Michael Moore is second in scoring as he is averaging 13.5 points per game and he has done his damage from the three point line making six of 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Tanner Youngberg has been an all-around threat this season for Northwester as he is averaging 12.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
