SAUK CENTRE, Minn – The Gustavus men’s golf team finished their first day in the Saint John’s Invite with a score of 294 which is good for second place. Saint John’s is currently in the lead with a 290.
Jacob Pederson (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) was the low scorer for the first day of the event when he posted a 69. Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn.) and Carter Czichotzki (So., Moorhead, Minn.) each also played well posting 73 and 74 respectively. Max Savini (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.) and Max Ullan (So., Blaine, Minn.) rounded out the Gustie top five by both scoring 78.
On the round, coach Randy Stuckey said, “The team came out on fire playing very well on the front nine and playing under par, but we didn’t finish as strong going 16 over on the back nine. Before the round we had a discussion about opportunities that come up and this weekend and next weekend are two opportunities that we must capitalize on. We challenged them to put together a solid tournament to bring some momentum into next weeks MIAC championships and today we put together a good round to set us up for success tomorrow.”
The Gusties will finish play at the Saint John’s Invite tomorrow.
