MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s track & field team performed well Friday at the Maverick Invite on the campus of Minnesota State, Mankato, recording five individual first place times.

“The men are doing some good things,” said Head Coach Dale Bahr. “This is the time of the year that we want to be performing our best. We’re some some pretty strong showings from quite a few people and some of the ones that we have moved around a bit are starting to stand out.”

Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) continues to improve upon his 60-meter hurdle time, turning in a season-best time of 8.14, which is tied for fourth best in Division III.

Four other Gusties earned top crowns, including Ben Madigan (Jr., Kohler, Wis.), Ryley Sandberg (Sr., Polk City, Iowa), Andrew Stumbo (Fy., Boone, Iowa), and Jeremy Gilbertson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.).

Madigan notched the top-time in the 600-meter run at 1:24.31. Sandberg crossed the finish line in the 1,000-meter run at 2:34.61, a career-best indoor time. Stumbo won the mile run with a time of 4:28.32. Finally, recently fresh off an injury, Gilbertson finished 15 seconds ahead of the closest competitor for first place at 8:59.49.

Next up, the Gusties prepare for the MIAC Multis next Thursday, followed by the MIAC Indoor Championships Friday-Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
