Track & Field Set For Maverick Invite Posted on February 15th, 2018 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete in the Maverick Invite at Minnesota State University, Mankato Friday afternoon. Field events are schedule to begin at 3 p.m. followed by running events at 4 p.m.

Other schools slated to participate among the Gusties include host Minnesota State, the University of Sioux Falls, Upper Iowa University, Winona State University, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Last time out

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field each took second place of nine teams at the Saint John’s/Saint Ben’s Invitational last Saturday in Collegeville, Minn. 

The Gustie men scored 110 points, which was 34 points behind first place Saint John’s. Four Gusties claimed individual first place finishes, along with a top finish from the 4×400-meter relay squad. 

Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) earned the top crown in both the 60-meter hurldes with a season-best time of 8.21 and the high jump, with a leap of 6-0.75. Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) recorded a career-best indoor shot put at 52-11.5. Ryley Sandberg (Sr., Polk City, Iowa) also posted a career-best indoor mile run, turning in a time of 4:27.95. 

The Gustavus women claimed one top crown along with runner-up finishes, totaling 117 points, which was 29 points behind first place Saint Benedict. Abbie Schnabel (Jr., Hamburg, Minn.) won the 1,000-meter run with a career-best indoor time of 3:05.95.
