ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday. Field events are schedule to begin at 11 a.m. followed by track events at noon.
Last time out: The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field both took third place at the St. Olaf College Quadrangular last Friday.
The Gustie men claimed three top finishes along with several runner-up times while totaling 99 points. Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.), Andrew Stumbo (Fy., Boone, Iowa), and Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) each earned top crowns for the Gusties.
Rooney matched his 60-meter hurdle time from a couple weekends back of 8.36 for the top time. Stumbo finshed three seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run at 8:55.43. Hensch won the shot put for a second consecutive time with a throw of 49-11.75 and finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 52-10 en route to earning MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Sadie Klug (Sr., Waseca, Minn.), Katie Keelin (So., Burnsville, Minn.), and Alex Anderson (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) each earned top crowns for the Gustie women as they compiled 127 team points.
Klug won the 3,000-meter run, finishing seven seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 10:38.36. Keelin won the weight throw for a second-straight week with a toss of 43-7, while Anderson’s 5-2.25 high jump was good for first place.
