Volleyball Advances To Region Championship, Defeats Wartburg In Four Sets

For the first time in the 49-year history of Gustavus volleyball, the Gusties have advanced to a NCAA region championship match – also distinguished as the “Sweet 16” – after defeating Wartburg College in four sets Friday evening at the Ericksen Center on the campus of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul.

Klein’s Two Goals Leads Women’s Hockey To Victory Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus women's hockey team opened its 2017-18 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference slate with a 4-1 victory over St. Olaf College Friday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink, led by a two goal performance from Kaitlyn Klein (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.). 

Swimming & Diving Hosts St. Olaf For MIAC Dual Meet Saturday

The Gustavus men's and women's swimming & diving teams host St. Olaf College at 1 p.m. Saturday for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet at Vic Gustafson Pool. 

Cross Country Prepared For NCAA Regional Saturday

The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAA Central Region meet Saturday in Northfield, Minn., hosted by Carleton College. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. and the women start at noon. 

Volleyball Defeats Aurora 3-1 In Opening Round Of NCAA Tournament

The Gustavus volleyball team opened the NCAA Tournament Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Aurora University on the campus of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. 

Becker, Mazzone Named MIAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women’s Soccer Awards Thursday and two Gusties earned All-Conference accolades. Goalkeeper Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) was named Defensive Player of the Year, while defender Josie Mazzone (Sr., Rapid City, S.D.) joins Becker on the All-MIAC Team. Midfielder Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and defender Emily Odermatt (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) were named honorable mention.

Murakami And Parens Named MIAC Men’s Soccer All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2017 Men’s Soccer Awards on Thursday with Gustavus owning two honorees on the All-Conference team in Matt Murakami (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Arthur Parens (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.), while three Gusties received honorable mention honors. 

Sophie Leininger Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Soccer Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus senior midfielder Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) was named to the 11-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes of institutions from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Holtan Sisters Highlight AVCA Volleyball Regional Awards

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its regional awards Thursday afternoon, with Nora Holtan (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) and Kate Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) named to the Division III All-Region Central Team, Kate named Central Region Freshman of the Year, and Brittany Luethmers (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) receiving honorable mention honors.

Women’s Hockey Opens MIAC Play This Weekend Against St. Olaf

The No. 7-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team begins Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend, taking on St. Olaf. Friday’s game in St. Peter begins at 5 p.m., while Saturday’s game in Northfield starts at 2 p.m. The Gusties most recently tied No. 10 UW-Eau Claire last Saturday in their home opener, moving to 1-0-1 overall. The Oles are coming off a 4-4 tie at UW-Stevens Point. St. Olaf hosts UW-Eau Claire on Thursday and enters that game with a 1-0-1 overall record.
