ROME, Ga. – Gustavus women’s tennis player Briana Hartmann (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.) won the ITA Oracle Cup consolation final 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 over Kate Daugherty of Southwestern on Saturday, taking fifth place in the nation.

“Bri played tough, grind-it-out singles today,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “She really battled back from losing the first set and being down 2-4 in the third. She just tried to make the points as long as possible hitting corner-to-corner, always making her opponent move.”

Hartmann caps an impressive fall season with an 8-1 record – her only loss coming against ITA champion Eudice Chong of Wesleyan. Hartmann’s fifth place is the best finish at the ITA Oracle Cup (formerly the ITA Small College Championships) since Sam Frank took second in 2010.
