ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team hits the road today for a 4 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at St. Olaf. The Gusties enter the game 5-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC, while the Oles are 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is coming off a 2-0 loss to St. Thomas on Saturday at the Gusties Soccer Field, snapping a three-game win streak. The Gusties had a season-low seven shots in the shutout loss, their second of the season. After eight games this year, Chase Miller leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Miller has fired 31 shots, which is tied for third most in the MIAC. Emily Skogseth (2g, 1a) and Hannah Sturtz (2g, 1a) are tied for second on the team with five points apiece. Sophie Leininger’s four assists are tied for second most in the MIAC. Ashley Becker has started every game as the Gustie keeper, ranking third in the MIAC in goals against average (0.74), saves (41), and save percentage (.872). In the United Soccer Coaches Week 3 North Region Poll, Gustavus ranks No. 7.

Scouting the Oles: St Olaf most recently lost 3-0 at Wartburg on Sunday. The Oles were limited to eight shots throughout the game and were whistled for nine fouls. After nine games this season, Mackenzie Shoustra leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist. Kaylyn Billmeyer has two goals for four points. Brynne Davis has seen the most time between the posts with a 1.83 goals against average and .625 save percentage. Although the Oles have four losses this year, each one has been outside the conference as they have won all three MIAC matchups – 1-0 vs. Bethel, 2-1 vs. Saint Mary’s, and 1-0 vs. Saint Ben’s.
