Leininger Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Recent Gustavus Adolphus College graduate Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) has been selected as a candidate for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Leininger was a four-year starter for the Gustavus women’s soccer team and the NCAA Woman of the Year nomination adds to a long list of accolades for the Wayzata product.

Leininger Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region

United Soccer Coaches announced on Friday the association’s Women’s Scholar All-America Teams for NCAA Division III and Gustavus senior Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) was named to the Third Team. 

Sophie Leininger Honored With Second MIAC Elite 22 Award

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced Monday morning its Elite 22 Award winners and Gustavus Adolphus senior midfielder Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the conference’s recipient of the honor for women’s soccer.

Becker, Mazzone Named MIAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women’s Soccer Awards Thursday and two Gusties earned All-Conference accolades. Goalkeeper Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) was named Defensive Player of the Year, while defender Josie Mazzone (Sr., Rapid City, S.D.) joins Becker on the All-MIAC Team. Midfielder Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and defender Emily Odermatt (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) were named honorable mention.

Sophie Leininger Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Soccer Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus senior midfielder Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) was named to the 11-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes of institutions from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Miller’s Double Overtime Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer Over Hamline 1-0

It took 109 minutes and 31 seconds for the game’s first goal Wednesday and it was the Gustavus women’s soccer team that claimed a 1-0 double overtime victory at Hamline to capture a crucial MIAC victory. Chase Miller’s (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) team-leading fourth goal of the season with 29 seconds left in the game moved the Gusties to 9-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the MIAC, while the Pipers dropped to 8-7-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the league.

The Gustavus women’s soccer team used three first half goals en route to a shutout over St. Catherine University Saturday afternoon at Gustie Soccer Field to snap a three-game winless streak.

Women’s Soccer Shuts Out UW-Eau Claire 2-0

The Gustavus women’s soccer team got back to its winning ways Wednesday, defeating UW-Eau Claire 2-0 for the fourth shutout victory of the season. The Gusties scored a goal in each half to improve to 7-3-1 overall, while the Blugolds’ four-game win streak snapped, dropping to 4-5-1.

Women’s Soccer Travels To St. Olaf Today

The Gustavus women’s soccer team hits the road today for a 4 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at St. Olaf. The Gusties enter the game 5-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC, while the Oles are 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Women’s Soccer Hosts St. Thomas In Homecoming Matchup

The Gustavus women’s soccer team looks to ride its momentum into Saturday as it hosts the University of St. Thomas for a Homecoming matchup. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Gustie Soccer Field. The Gusties enter the match with a 5-1-1 overall record and 2-0 mark in the MIAC, while the Tommies are 5-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.
