ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team looks to bounce back from two consecutive losses over the past weekend, hosting Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Macalester College Wednesday evening at Gus Young Court.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gusties lost twice in five sets over the weekend, falling at Bethel University on Friday. On homecoming Saturday, Gustavus suffered its first home loss since the 2014 season as the No. 12-ranked University of Northwestern-St. Paul Eagles snapped the Gusties’ 24-match win streak at Gus Young Court.

IN THE POLLS

The Gusties dropped one spot in the most recent Division III National rankings, dropping from No. 10 to No. 11 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Fellow MIAC opponents University of St. Thomas is ranked No. 17, along with Bethel University receiving votes.

THE SERIES

Wednesday’s contest marks the 61st all-time meeting between Gustavus and Bethel with the Gusties holding a 43-16-1 advantage over the Scots. Gustavus is currently riding a 12-game winning streak against Macalester, including a 3-1 victory last season in St. Paul.

SCOUTING MACALESTER

The Scots are in search of their first conference win, falling twice last week versus Concordia College and St. Olaf College. 5-11 overall on the season, Macalester owns a .132 attack percentage while averaging 10.5 kills per set. Senior outside hitters Clara Baumann and India Medaris rank among the top attackers in the MIAC. Baumann owns the second best kill per set average with a mark of 3.69, followed by 3.62 from Medaris. Medaris ranks second with 210 kills, followed by 203 from Baumann. Additionally, junior setter Sofi Ascencio ranks fifth in the conference with 7.77 assists per set.

  • Brittany Luethmers (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) ranks third in the MIAC with 286 digs, averaging 5.11 per set.
  • Kate Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) leads the Gustie attack with 162 kills, averaging 2.89 per set to rank within the top-10 in the conference.
