SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team Sunday concluded play at the Saint John’s Fall Invitational, played at Greystone Golf Club, taking sixth place out of 17 teams. The Gusties posted a 311-300-611, which was 18 stokes off the winning team and host Saint John’s. The University of Manitoba shared medalist honors by carding a 593 as well, while St. Thomas took third with a 599. Alex Uloth from the University of Minnesota won the event with a 71-74-145.
Alec Aunan (Sr., Rock Island, Ill.) posted his 13th career top-10 finish, tying for eighth place with a 73-76-149 (+5). Ben Hauge (So. Ramsey, Minn.) tied for 18th with an 81-70-151, while carding the third most birdies of the tournament with six. Chris Captain (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) tied for 24th after posting a 77-76-153, Joe Foley (So., East Gull Lake, Minn.) tied for 49th at 80-78-158, and Max Ullan (Fy., Blaine, Minn.) took 56th with an 81-78-159.
“We had a better day overall today at Greystone,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “It was really nice to see Ben come in at two-under for the second round. Alec had another strong tournament for us, which is great to see him play well with another top-10 finish. We’re looking forward to sending five guys to the NCAA Preview next weekend in North Carolina.”
Gustavus’s top five golfers will compete in the NCAA Division III Preview next weekend, while the rest of the squad hosts the Twin Cities Classic on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, held at The Links at Northfork, Elk River Golf Course, and Le Sueur Country Club.
