SARTELL, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team took third place out of 13 teams Sunday at the CSB Blazer Invite, posting a 333-322-655. The Gusties shot the second best score in the second round, four strokes behind the winning team Carleton, which posted a 318-318-636. St. Catherine placed second with a 329-323-652.
“The women showed up today ready to do battle,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We got off to a good start and put together a good team score.”
Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) carded a 78 in round two for an 11th place finish with 161 strokes. Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.) and Ellie Brandt (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for 20th place. Cash posted an 80-85-165, while Brandt tallied an 88-77-165. McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) tied for 25th with an 83-84-167 and Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn) tied for 29th at 87-83-170. Abbie Grevlos (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the second Gustie team with an 80-83-163, tying for 16th place.
“We’re looking forward to a good week of practice and good results next week at Eau Claire,” Moe said. “Today was a definite shot in the right direction.”
Net weekend the Gusties compete in the Eau Claire Invitational Sept. 10-11.
