ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mae Meierhenry (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot a 72 in the first round of of the Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invitational Saturday, leading the Gustavus women’s golf team to finish in second after day one.
Meierhenry’s two-over-par score of 72 stands as a season-low and ties a career-best score as she is tied for second place after round one. As a team, the Gusties turned in a score of 312 (+32) to finish second of 15 teams.
“I was very pleased with the score of 72 from Mae Meierhenry,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “She really struck the ball well today and made some good putts. Her focus was on making birdies today and that confidence showed in her score.”
Kristen Cash (Fy., Roseville, Minn.) finished behind Meierhenry, tying a season-low score of 78 (+8) to tie for 15th place.

“I was really happy the way our women got off to a good start today, the field is very strong,” Stuckey said. “We had a very relaxed practice round yesterday and they had a lot of fun. We tried to keep that attitude the same today. Tomorrow we will focus on finishing strong by improving our putting and shots around the green.”
The final round concludes tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Golf Courses at Forest Park.
