MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Gustavus men’s golf team carded a team score of 307, repeating round one’s 19-over-par score to finish tied for ninth of 15 squads in the final round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Invite Tuesday at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club.
No. 1-ranked Huntingdon College fired a day two score of 287, finishing nine-under-par (280-287–567) to claim first place.
“We got after the start I was looking for,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “We were under par through five or six holes. Then on hole 18 we played 11 over par which derailed us for the rest of the round. I Saw some good things out there but we were not as sharp as we have to be. We battled hard and the effort was there, it just didn’t come together.”
Alex Koopmeiners (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) played as an individual and was one of three Gusties to card a 75 (+3) during round two. Koopmeiners fired a team-low score of 150 (75-75) to tie for 20th place. Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) and Sam Majka (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) also turned in day two scores of 75, each improving their round one totals.

“Tough this time of year but any time you play against this quality of a field you have to be ready to go and minimize the bad holes, or make the bad swings work out,” Moe said. “We now head to Florida to join the rest of our team and finish up a great spring break trip in Ponte Vedra Beach.”
Gustavus will round out its spring trip Friday, competing against Flagler College Friday.
