EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team took third at the Blugold Invite Friday, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Gusties posted a team score of 184.750, which is third best in school history, while host UW-Eau Claire won the meet at 186.300 – UW-Stout took second at 185.175.

“Overall, that is the best performance we’ve had all season,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood said. “We put together a complete meet and are gearing up to peak at the right time. All of our events were solid tonight and we only ad to count one fall. That’s a big improvement and will give us lots of confidence moving forward into our last regular season meet of the year and conference championship.”

Lauren Kershner (Sr., Marine, Ill.) highlighted the meet for the Gusties with a first place finish on the beam, scoring a career-high 9.675, which stands as the third best beam score in program history. Kershner finished with an all-around total of 36.750 for third place.

Amanda Malo (So., Greenwood, Minn.) had a consistent night across the board, totaling 36.800 in the all-around for a second place finish. She scored 9.200 on vault, 9.050 on bars, 9.200 on beam, and 9.350 on floor.

Sam Ardy (So., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) also provided a solid performance for the Gusties. Ardy took second on both the vault and bars with scores of 9.550 (season-high) and 9.475, respectively.

Despite falling on beam, Alex Kopp (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) was impressive in the other three events, tallying 9.500 on vault, 9.350 on bars, and 9.450 on floor with an all-around score of 36.150.

“Individually, Sam had a great meet on her three events,” DeGrood said. “The high was her throwing and landing an upgraded vault. Lauren had a gorgeous beam routine. The entire floor lineup was great once again. And bars have really become a consistent, solid event for us.”

As a team, the Gusties scored 47.150 on floor, 46.475 on bars, 46.400 on beam (season high), and 46.275 on vault.

Gustavus hosts UW-La Crosse at 6:30 p.m. next Friday for its last home and regular season meet of the season.
