ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team enters Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday night against the University of St. Thomas at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

The Gusties (1-2-1) host the Tommies (1-2-1) in St. Peter, Minn. at 7:05 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the Gusties travel to Saint Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn. to face the Tommies at 7:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES

Setting the scene

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team begins its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule this week as it takes on the University of St. Thomas in an home-away series. The Gusties enter this weekend’s series with a 1-2-1 overall record after facing Wisconsin competition in back to back games. Last Friday, the Gusties tied University of Stevens Point 3-3, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation. Then on Saturday, the Gusties skated to a 1-2 loss at UW-Stout. The Tommies enter with an identical 1-2-1 overall record after a loss and a win last weekend. UST won 3-2 at UW-River Falls last Friday and then lost to UW-Superior the next day.

Last time they met – Gusties vs. Tommies

The 2015-16 meeting between the Golden Gusties and the Tommies resulted in a 2-0 sweep in the Tommies favor. The series was decided by one goal games both nights. The Gusties fell 2-3 the first night of the series followed by a 1-2 deficit the second night.

Scouting the Tommies

St. Thomas averages 1.75 goals per game, ranking 9th in the MIAC, with help from the team’s top scorers Michael Dockry and Cullen Willox. In the four games St. Thomas has played this season, senior forward Dockry leads the team in points with two goals followed by two assists. Willox with three points, has contributed two goals and one assist this season. The net has been home to both Devin Tappenden and Benjamin Myers as they have shared their time between the pipes this season. Tappenden has logged 118:11 in goal with a 1.52 goals against average, .930 save percentage, and a 0-2 record. Myers has logged 125:00 in goal with a 2.40 goals against average, .938 save percentage, and a 1-0-1 record.
