FIRST ROUND SCORES

CLAYTON, Ind. – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in 10th place out of 14 teams after day one at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic, which took place at Deer Creek Golf Club on Saturday. The Gusties shot a 332, which is 32 strokes behind the leader Wittenberg University. Indiana Tech is in second place with a 312, while Illinois Wesleyan is in third, shooting a 318.

Jessica Nelson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) led the Gusties by carding a 79 in the first round. Mae Meierhenry (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot an 82, Kristen Cash (Fy., Roseville, Minn.) an 83, McKenzie Swenson (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) an 88, and Abbie Grevlos (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) a 90.

“I feel like there are a lot of birdie opportunities and we need to capitalize when we get those looks,” Nelson said. “My ball striking was good and we are looking forward to another look at this course tomorrow. It was tough yesterday when we showed up for our practice round and it was pouring so we did not get to play. We will play a couple of those holes differently tomorrow.”

The Dan Quayle Classic, which features many of the top teams in the country, continues tomorrow.
