McKenzie Swenson was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team on Monday.

BLOOMINGTON, MINN. – Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golfer McKenzie Swenson (So., Buffalo, Minn.) has been named to the 2016 MIAC All-Conference Team that was announced Monday. The honor is the second in a row for Swenson who just completed her second year of collegiate golf.

This marks the third season that the MIAC Golf All-Conference teams were selected using a combination of MIAC Championship results and end-of-season voting. The top-10 finishers (including ties) at the MIAC Championships in October automatically earned All-MIAC honors, and the coaches nominated and voted to add five additional players based on their body of work throughout the fall and spring seasons.

After a stellar first year, Swenson picked up right where she left off and posted a stroke average of 81.7 through 21 rounds, good for 14th in the conference. She tied a team-high for top-10 finishes with five, and posted the Gusties only individual medalist honor of the season when she won the Georgianni Memorial Blugold Invite with a two-round total of 156.

Carleton College and the University of St. Thomas headlined the 2016 awards, with Carleton taking home the honors of Senior-of-the-Year (Grace Gillmore) and Rookie-of-the-Year (Ziyi Wang), and St. Thomas earning Player-of-the-Year (Emily Thul) and Coach-of-the-Year (Sara Evens).

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the 10th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team for women’s golf. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the course of competition. Representing Gustavus on this year’s squad was Swenson.
