MINNEAPOLIS – Both the Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s golf teams lead their respective fields after one day of play at the Augsburg Invite on Saturday. The men’s tournament is being played at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn., while the women’s field is located at the Les Bolstad Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The men’s squad leads second place Augsburg by three strokes (304-307), while the women are ahead of second place Bethel by 13 (345-358).

Andrew Krasaway continued his stellar golf of late with a 71 in the first round on the men’s side to head into Sunday’s final round in a tie for first place. Andrew Brandt (73 – 4th), Chris Captain (78 – T-11th), Max Savini (79 – T-18th), and Blake Heiman (86 – T 48th) followed Krasaway to contribute to the Gusties’ top spot in the standings.

“Both Andrews played very steady golf,” said Coach Scott Moe. “Every hole still had some snow, so I thought our score was pretty good considering those conditions. We assumed it would melt, but it would’ve had to be a lot warmer for that to happen. Overall, I’m very happy of the way we grinded, and especially happy for Sam Majka, who led our second team with a 71 in his first collegiate competitive round!”

On the women’s side, Gustavus was led by Mae Meierhenry who shot an 83, good for first place in the individual standings. Jessica Nelson (84 – 2nd), McKenzie Swenson (85 – 3rd), Mallory Drenttel (93 – 13th), and Chloe Altmann (95 – 15th) followed Meierhenry to help the Gusties take their 13-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

“Very proud of the play from our women today,” said Moe. “Again, in difficult conditions, they made the most of it, and similar to the guys, played steadily. Hoping to keep the momentum flowing into tomorrow’s round!”
